Comcast Unleashes New 50/10 Mbps Extreme High-Speed Internet Service in Independence / Olathe

Launch of DOCSIS 3.0 Technology Also Means Faster Speeds at No Additional Cost for

Existing Comcast High-Speed Internet Customers

Independence, MO – December 8, 2009 – Comcast, one of the nation’s leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services, today unveiled its ground-breaking 50 Mbps Extreme High-Speed Internet service for consumers in the company’s Independence, MO and Olathe, KS service areas. As part of a nationwide rollout of new speeds, Comcast is offering area residents one of the fastest broadband services available in the U.S. today: up to 50 Mbps downloads and 10 Mbps uploads.

In addition, existing Comcast high-speed Internet customers will enjoy even faster Internet access – including TWICE the current download speeds – at no additional cost.

Extreme 50 High-Speed Internet service is a result of Comcast’s deployment of wideband DOCSIS 3.0 (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications) technology, which sets a new standard for delivering high-speed Internet service access fiber-optic cable networks. “We are excited to deliver these new wideband speeds to customers,” said Dave Williams, vice president and general manager, Comcast Independence / Olathe. “We’ve received overwhelmingly positive response to these faster speeds in markets where the service is already available, and we’re confident of their popularity in the Independence and Olathe area as well.”
